Project Management - Pragmatic PRINCE2™
PRINCE2™ is now the most prevalent method for managing projects. Its benefits are widely recognised, yet often the full range of those benefits fails to materialise. For this, the manner of its implementation and usage is usually to blame. There is a tendency to adopt PRINCE2™ in a rigid, dogmatic way, treating it in a highly prescriptive fashion that allows no room for flexibility. The result is that it is seen as cumbersome and bureaucratic, more an obstacle to successful project outcomes than an aid to their achievement.
For many years, Amberwing's consultants have promoted the intelligent implementation of PRINCE2™ . This has meant adapting its processes and components to fit the type/s of projects for which it is to be used. It has meant moulding the method so that it sits comfortably in each particular organisational culture. It has also meant optimising efficiency, minimising bureaucracy and maximising benefits.
Course Content
This one-day course has been devised in order to share some of the lessons learned from this long and very practical experience. It will:
- consider the use of projects as a vehicle for managing change, clarifying the differences between projects and programmes;
- analyse the reasons for using PRINCE2™, including the primacy of the business case, planning and control, quality assurance, risk management and benefits realisation;
- examine the scalability of PRINCE2™, along with the organisational environments and project types for which scaling should be considered (e.g. particular customer/supplier relationships, deadline based and short duration projects);
- explore means by which the key PRINCE2™ processes and components can be scaled, ensuring always an appropriate lightness of touch;
- consider how management structures, communication arrangements, documentation requirements and reporting methods can be tailored to match the demands of each individual circumstance.
Delegate Profile
The course is ideal for anyone from an organisation currently using PRINCE2™ or considering its use at some point in the future. This will include those involved with change generally and projects specifically, such as Programme Managers/Directors, Senior Responsible Owners and Change Managers, plus Project Executives, Sponsors and Managers and those operating in Project Support or Assurance roles. It will also be relevant to line managers whose staff are engaged in project-related activities.
