Risk Management - Managing People RiskClick here to print the course details

One of the most important areas of risk in any organisation is associated with the people. Yet this is also an area that is commonly overlooked. Available over a half-day or a full day, this course examines how to recognise and deal with some of the most common people related threats to commercial success and service delivery objectives.

Course Content

The longer (one-day) format involves firstly looking at the role and purpose of risk management and it’s linkage to achievement of objectives at all levels. It also works through the basic risk management process, including identification, evaluation, use of risk tolerance and the selection of appropriate risk responses.

The remainder of the course:

  • examines the importance of all managers and staff understanding risk,
    • how it relates to them,
    • its association with the achievement of personal objectives,
    • individual roles and responsibilities in managing risk;
  • reviews typical areas of risk relating to people, notably
    • organisational weaknesses,
    • management limitations,
    • process and procedural flaws,
    • technological operability issues,
    • competency and capability deficiencies,
    • motivational failings,
    • team-building weaknesses,
    • recruitment and development,
    • retention, succession and depth planning,
    • work-place relationships (professional and personal),
    • cultural change (taking the people with you),
    • attitudinal and behavioural risks;
  • considers how these (and other risks linked to human factors) can be identified, analysed, evaluated and managed.

Throughout the course, consideration will also be given to ways in which a conducive risk management culture can be created.
