Project Management - Project Board Briefing
PRINCE2™ is now the most prevalent project management methodology, not only in the UK, but also worldwide. Devised by the UK’s Office of Government Commerce (OGC), it is a key constituent of the OGC’s Successful Delivery Toolkit and has been designated as Best Practice. Its success, though, depends considerably upon the effectiveness of the Project Board, which provides ownership and direction, while representing the interests if the business, the end-user of a project’s outputs and those charged with supplying or developing those outputs.
This special briefing will cover:
- the context of change and how projects (and programmes) are used as vehicles to deliver that change;
- the organisation of a PRINCE2™ project and the roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of the Project Board, especially in relation to:
- effective project start-up and initiation, including clear definition of objectives and constraints
- the business case
- project steering and governance
- engagement of and communication with stakeholders
- the management of change
- the management of risk
- monitoring progress so as to ensure the project will produce the expected beneficial outcomes
- controlled project closure
- the requirements of the Project Board for on-going engagement throughout the project life-cycle;
- the PRINCE2™ Process Model and key management products, including the Project Initiation Document, the Business Case, project plans, the risk and issue logs and project reporting;
- the relationship between the Project Board and the Project Manager;
- the role of Project Assurance.
Delegate Profile
The briefing is focused upon the needs Project Board members, rather than upon those of project staff or support personnel. It is therefore ideal for Chief Executives and Board level directors, along with other senior managers and public officers.
Briefing Length
The briefing is run over one day, but can be condensed to half a day when required.
