Project Management Short Courses and Master Classes
Product Based Planning
At the heart of PRINCE2™ lies product delivery. This means both the end-product from a project and the intermediate and management products created throughout the project’s life-time. This course studies the principles and processes of product based planning, using meaningful case scenarios to illustrate its practical usage.
Managing Project Quality
How can all those involved in a project ensure that its deliverables will be fit for purpose? PRINCE2™ addresses this question through use of a pervasive quality management process. This course looks first at the elements of a Project Quality Plan, then examines how this is enacted throughout the project. It will also consider the quality path, the definition and management of customer/user expectations, policies, standards and systems related to quality and the role of Project Assurance.
PRINCE2™ Project Organisation
An effective organisation is one of the most important building blocks for project success. It is surprising, therefore, that many of the functions in a project are misunderstood and that key individuals do not maintain appropriate levels of engagement. This course describes the most important roles, responsibilities and accountabilities in a PRINCE2™ project. These include the Project Board (Executive, Senior Supplier, Senior User), the Project Manager and Team Managers. It also looks at the functions of Project Support and Project Assurance.
Effective Project Start-Up & Initiation
In projects, establishing a firm foundation is a vital first step, but one that is often overlooked or undervalued. This course therefore reinforces the need for a controlled start-up, including the creation of the business case and of a project mandate and brief. It goes on to examine the process of project initiation, the core elements of a project initiation document and its use as a “contract” between the Project Executive and the Project Manager.
Project Planning & Control
Aimed at project managers and project support staff, this course covers the essential elements of a project plan. It looks at prerequisites, assumptions, internal and external dependencies, critical path analysis, provision for risk management, product networks, GANTT charts, time-boxing and budgetary aspects. The course also looks at control techniques, such as checkpoints and milestones, reporting, analysis of actuals, re-planning, intensive care and change management.
Project Team Building, Management & Motivation
Understanding and applying the processes of project management is only one part of a Project Manager’s role. At least as important is the ability to create and manage an effective project team. This course looks at building a team by establishing the required balance of capabilities, attitudes and behaviours. It also considers the people management approaches needed so as to get the best out of project staff and thereby achieve project objectives.
Using MS Project in a PRINCE2™ Environment
MS Project is one of the most common tools used by Project Managers. It provides a means by which to plan and monitor a project, to model potential scenarios, to manage project resources and to produce reports. For projects managed with PRINCE2™. MS Project has particular relevance, notably its linkage with PRINCE2™ planning, control and reporting requirements. This course explores those links and shows how to use MS Project to maximum effect.
